We recently spent a weekend in London at the very lovely Hoxton Hotel near Shoreditch – it was the perfect base for some roving around the city and seeing the sights. Equally excellent were the food and drinks on offer nearby. I cannot actually tell you enough how much I loved the pizza I had in Yard - on Tabernacle Street, it was so delicious! I had a goats cheese, stone baked pizza covered in a delicious tomato sauce – it came super quick, fresh, hot and tasty. Honestly, it may be the best pizza I’ve eaten. Calum had a tuna nicoise which was beautifully presented and tasted fab. Not too horrifically priced for London considering the quality of the food and how quickly it came out. We waited a bit for the waitress to notice we had finished but we sat and enjoyed the atmosphere and our drinks so it was no hardship. A really lovely restaurant which I wish I could visit often!
And to make things even better, the pizza of glory was followed by another best… the actual best Mojito cocktail to date… yes it did cost £8 but it was so delicious I had two in fairly quick succession and would have had more if it hadn’t been so late and so close to closing time Saturday night in the Hoxton Hotel had the most buzzing bar ever when we made it back from a wedding out in Billericay (many trains & tubes) so we were too knackered to do anything except look at the heaving masses and crawl into our bed. Sunday however, was all ours and after a day doing some touristy stuff, a lovely bottle of wine with our lunch and the glorious pizza from Yard, we went back to the Hotel and decided on cocktails. Calum had a couple of Jerry’s Tea cocktails made with Sailor Jerry rum, peach, lemon & green tea – very tasty. Mine was the queen though – a Mumbai Mojito – the ingredients were Bombay Sapphire, elderflower, lime, mint & coriander and it was so sweet, so sugary, so minty, so bloody delicious I can’t even tell you. If you are in London anytime and need a cool hotel with a great bar – I would recommend the Hoxton. And if you like mojitos’s – try theirs!
